Vote buying in Thailand - BBC News

Quote: The electoral commission has banned voters from taking mobile phones into polling booths in an attempt to stop vote-buying. It suspects that people will use phones with cameras to photograph their ballot papers, to prove that they voted for the party offering to buy their vote.

I've always wondered how vote buying produced the desired result. When you pay someone to vote for you, there are two possibilities: they would have voted for you without the bribe, or they are taking your money and lying to you about their vote. Evidently, vote buyers, too, are concerned about lying, and their interest is not academic.

On the how-tos of lying to pollsters see my Public Choice paper.
