Impossibility of holding UAE elections is linked to the defect in the demographic structure - Khaleej Times

This reads like an editorial, but is not listed as such.

During a discussion forum shown on the Dubai TV on Friday on electing the Federal National Council (FNC), Dr Habib Al Mulla, one of the participants, linked the impossibility of holding elections to the defect in the demographic structure.

The link is unjustified and the causes are unknown.

Moreover, he also underlined that the population of nationals, who one point he said constituted 10 per cent, and at another point as 20 per cent of the total population of foreigners, was an obstacle in holding the elections to the national council. He described the state of the country as unique and strange.

It is unclear what Dr Habib has seen in the UAE is strange or unique for a sovereign state having the full qualification as a political entity enjoying the membership of the United Nations.

...

The second point raised by Dr Habib was astonishing too: That the UAE society feels that it is not in need of democracy because they (the people of the UAE) live in a rich country.
My emphasis.
