The 3rd Annual Career Development Conference - IIR

Nationalisation of jobs top of the agenda - 01 Sep 2002
...
In the UAE, according to research conducted by Tanmia (the National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority), there are more than 800,000 private sector jobs currently held by expatriates that can be filled by nationals. But it is not enough just to recruit into these positions. The young nationals who are likely to fill these positions are looking for ongoing career development, not just a job, and HR professionals across the region realise that this is where the real work is.
IIR's Career Development conference will allow companies to analyse and assess proven practices in career development for Gulf nationals. 'HR Departments in organisations which employ large numbers of nationals but which fail to motivate them and develop their skills, are adding to their problems and not pursuing a rational business strategy' warns Dalice Trost of IIR. 'Localisation policies are not about social support - they are about creating a dynamic, motivated, well-trained workforce with the potential to take organisations into the future. Young nationals want rewarding careers with the potential for promotion.'
