Maybe this is a stupid idea, by why not just set the pumps for half of the price (like $1.60 for $3.20) and then post signs telling customers.
I remember when this problem first showed up as prices went over one dollar.
The price of gasoline has recently passed $1/litre in Canada. Many stations here faced similar problems with their signs advertising the price, but I haven't heard of any having problems with their pumps.
