Bargain-the-fare Sharjah taxis going the way of the dodo bird - Khaleej Times

“The metered taxis are a new concept in Sharjah, so people are quite critical of the fare. In fact, it is much cheaper than the private taxis where the charge is Dh5 even for a short distance. Besides, there is no bargaining. The difference will soon be evident to the people,” Habibullah said.

He said the drivers’ conduct with passengers would also be much better than private taxi drivers. “Our drivers undergo a three-week training course at the company and another week at STC before they obtain a taxi driving permit. All drivers are paid on a commission basis,” Razak said.
