Media informs committee members committee has changed - Gulf News

The licensing committee is authorised to approve or decline company requests for more workers. The powerful committee is meant to look into the company's work contracts, the number of workers it employs, past problems and other issues.

Dr Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, has also ensured more women would serve on the committee, the source said.

Dr Al Ka'abi was "dedicated to seeing more women reach higher administrative posts," he said. "Besides, it's well known women work better than men."
An industry insider said the change was not just to make the powerful committee more gender inclusive.

"You could say the committee has had many shortcomings. I wouldn't say corruption exactly, but there are people who've served who haven't understood what they are meant to do, people who have exploited their position and let's face it, the longer one stays on the committee, the more chance there is for exploitation."

I love this guy, Al Ka'abi - he's one of my hero sheikhs. I must blog about him.
