This "tax misery" index is in most cases a canard: it fails to account for the very real benefits the better-run high-tax countries offer. Belgium and Sweden, for example, offer a wide variety of services that, in less enlightened countries like the U.S., are borne by individuals, often to their sorrow.
You should recognize that in societies without corruption, low taxes equal low services.
