Markets fluctuate for a variety of reasons: 1) Success of a business model2) Perceived integrity of the business market and/or the marketplace 3) General economic conditions. That the market declined so broadly suggests that conditions 2 & 3 played a prominent role. Personally, I think gold is a darn good alternative, these days.

abundant liquidity, or if i may say lots of money as a reason of high oil prices, and a limited number of listed stocks resulted in over-valuation, with share prices exceeding by far the fair value. Correction was eminent.
