Marriage of locals to foreign women to be curbed - Khaleej Times

ABU DHABI - A new law aimed at curbing the marriage of UAE national men to foreign women in order to control the problem of spinsterhood among national women, will be implemented soon, an official has said. "A law stipulating that national men will not be allowed to marry foreign women unless they meet certain conditions drafted with the main aim of restricting these marriages," Jamal bin Obeid Al Bah, the Director-General of the Marriage Fund, yesterday told Khaleej Times.

For readers unfamiliar with the Marriage Fund in the UAE, newly-wedded couples receive a substantial grant from the government's Marriage Fund. You'll probably see more about the fund in future posts.

National women are already more restricted than men when it comes to rights to marry non-nationals.
