Police refuse to confirm or deny as rumours of mystery attacker circulate - Gulf News

A father of three daughters told Gulf News: "It is true the man has attacked women on Sharjah Corniche, on Khalid Lagoon and on Mina Road. The police must either confirm or deny this information."

I doubt that the police fear confirming will hurt the chances of apprehending the criminal. For public safety they should go public, confirming or denying the report. The safe inference, from the refusal to answer, is that the rumours are true.

It has to be asked: what is the motive not to reveal?
