String theory: Testable? - Red Nova
The Scientific Method

What's the good of a theory if you can not test it? String theorists have been in the uncomfortable position of arguing that a theory can help us understand the world even if it can't be tested. String theory predicts strings are so thin as to be unmeasurable.

But now their pet theory may be testable. String theorists have discovered that their theory predicts that under the physical conditions that existed in the early universe fat strings are produced. Because light travels slowly enough, images of the time of the early universe are just now getting to earth. Time to ditch the vestments, put on the white lab coats and collect some data.
