Mr Goodwin only gave up eating meat about eight months ago when his wife Julie, who was a vegetarian, died of cancer at the age of 35.

Mr Goodwin has been living next door to the shop for 10 years and says he was never troubled until the Males took over a year ago and started selling bacon butties. The 40-year-old former pub singer, who performed under the stage name Tony Wayne, said: "I've spent £3,000 on my garden to make it nice for my daughter but we can't use it now because it stinks.

"You can't have the windows or doors open so you're basically locked in your house. It's vile. I shouldn't be in this situation. I've lived in my home for 10 years then they came along and caused all this. "Why should I be forced to move my family out when I was here first?"
...
But he claimed the smell of sizzling bacon from next door was now so intolerable that he has been forced to live in a caravan outside a friend's house with his three-year-old daughter Olivia.
...
The Males applied for retrospective permission to sell hot food when they were alerted to the problem but it was refused by Tameside Council because of "inconsideration to immediate neighbours".

A spokesman for Tameside Council said: "An enforcement notice was issued because the premises had changed from a retail shop to a hot food take-away. This change requires planning permission which the owners didn't have."
...
Mr and Mrs Male, who have been married 25 years, invested their life savings of around £80,000 in establishing the business last year and immediately added bacon butties to the menu.

Father of three Mr Male, 47, said: "When we bought the shop we consulted with the relevant council departments and did everything they asked of us.

"We were told we didn't need a licence to sell hot snacks.
...
Owners Steven and Linda Male have been warned they will be committing a criminal offence if they carry on making the traditional breakfast favourite, which they sell to customers for £1.
