Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi FT
QUOTE
Over-hyped, over-priced and over the top
By Sophy Roberts
Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi has generated more hype than even Dubai's sail-shaped Burj Al Arab. Wild reports before it opened included a room rate of £22,000 per night for a 24-bedroom suite (untrue), building costs ranging from £300m to £2bn (unconfirmed), and a seven-star rating, which simply doesn't exist.
While the Palace is extraordinary in its conception, with 114 domes and a private 1.3km-long beach, statistics alone don't make luxury hotels. They raise expectations. This is dangerous in business, especially when holidays aren't commodities available on sale or return.
