Tom Wolfe won the top MATH student while he was at St. Christopher's Episcopal High (Richmond, Virginia). In 2nd place was my dad. That's official.
By the way, I guess I am a nerd. Can't possibly love econ? I do.

That's a very cool "brush with greatness"! I liked a lot about I Am Charlotte Simmons and one of the best small pleasures of the book was Wolfe's dead-on characterization of "cool guy" econ majors. Later in the book, he talks about how they all want to be i-bankers but know nothing about investment banking except that it pays a ton of money.
